Symposium News

New items:
June 2007 The symposium is over. About 100 participants enjoyed both formal and informal presentations which were extremely well attended, excursions, and other special symposium events, not in the least the last day's boat tour and diner d'adieu on board.
The Organising Committee are now working on financial matters and the Transactions.

Old Items:
May 2007 (3) The Netherlands has experienced an exceptionally long period of warm, dry and sunny (equally exceptional!) weather in April. The weather forecast is bad for the coming weeks. Does this increase the probability of having fine weather again when the symposium starts?
May 2007 (2) Participants requiring a hotel room for June 13th, are requested to contact the Committee before May 10th. This is the deadline of our hotel room options. After that date: no room guaranteed!
May 2007 (1) Participants are requested to advise the Committee of their travel times (arrival and departure) before May 10th.
April 2007 (3) Presenters of formal papers or informal contributions will receive by e-mail a few instructions for the preparation of their presentation.
April 2007 (2) We have nearly 100 registered participants. A few of them have not yet paid their full symposium fee though, and will only receive the paper pack upon full payment.
April 2007 (1) The symposium paper pack is despatched in the second half of April. Last minute information about the symposium, a list of participants, and for TIMS members the agenda plus financial report for the General Meeting are also included.
March 2007 (3) A long list (but still not complete) of sponsors has been added to our website; please click on "Sponsors".
March 2007 (2) A number of road maps indicating how to get to the symposium hotel at Putten and to Alkmaar (for the pre tour) have been added to the web page "How to get there" (click on the link left). Train schedules have been added as well.
March 2007 (1) We have received quite a number of formal papers and announcements of informal contributions. The papers are currently being pre-edited for inclusion in the symposium paper pack. This pack will be distributed by postal service early May.
February 2007 (4) Please click Howtogetthere (left) for train schedules, including the train connection between London Waterloo and Putten (vice versa).
February 2007 (3) We have now received from our bank a long list of payments. We are currently working our way through this list. This will take a few days, but everyone who has paid will receive a formal confirmation by traditional mail service.
February 2007 (2) We are experiencing some difficulty with getting overviews of payments from our bank. We know that many payments have come in, but apart from the total amount we have not yet received a list of individual payments. We are currently sorting this out with the bank (bureaucracy!). Everyone who has paid will receive a formal confirmation by postal service in due time.
February 2007 (1) We have received an overwhelming  number of registrations and have had to restrict the open registration. We are now operating a waiting list. If you want to participate please send an e-mail to the Organising Committee and do not pay before receiving a notice of acceptance by us.
December 2006 Le correspondant pour la France, M. B.Deffontaines, a fait disponible un texte français avec des indications pour les contributions formelles et informelles (traduction du texte anglais). Voir "home" ou "call for papers".
November 2006 Registrations keep coming in! Single rooms at the symposium hotel are fully booked now. Twin-bedded rooms (also for single occupation at a supplementary cost) still available. Both pre-tour "Highlights of Holland" and post-tour "Mill wonders in Flanders" are very popular, so do not wait too long before registering even if you are still uncertain about the title of your paper.
September 2006 The symposium pages of the TIMS website have been updated with the latest information about the symposium.
August 2006 (1) The Organising Committee has established the fees for the symposium and the tours, and has finalised other relevant information items for inclusion in the formal symposium invitation pack.
August 2006 (2) The invitation pack is currently being sent out to TIMS members by traditional mail. Members should have received their invitation before the end of the first week of September 2006.
August 2006 (3) The Symposium Secretary has already received an encouraging number of information requests from TIMS members and non-members, and announcements of papers and other contributions being prepared.
July 2006 (1) TIMS Council has agreed that young people (below 30 years of age) and inhabitants of East European countries who are participating in the symposium but are not yet members of TIMS should be offered a free one-year membership of TIMS. This may be granted in addition to a reduction on the symposium fee (see news item of May 2006 below).
July 2006 (2) The Organising Committee has decided to publish the guidelines for formal papers on the symposium web site previous to the mailing of the symposium invitation pack. Some members have advised the Committee that they are already working on a paper. Please refer to the Call for papers for further information.
May 2006 Thanks to some specific financial contributions the Organising Committee is able to offer with pleasure an attractive reduction on the symposium fee to a limited number of young people (below 30 years of age) and inhabitants of East European countries. Those wishing to apply for this offer have to send a formal request together with their symposium registration form with proof of their age or evidence of insufficient private financial means. The Committee will only accept and decide on such applications after formal registration has been opened (not yet!). More details of this arrangement (and possibly additional criteria) will follow.

March 18th, 2006

The Organising Committee advertised the symposium at the General Meeting of the Dutch National Mill Society. His Royal Highness Prince Friso, the Society's patron, accompanied by the Society's president and the president of the foundation "Year of the Mills (2007)" visited our stand. Ton Meesters, president of  TIMS - Netherlands/Flanders, informed them about TIMS and the symposium, and Diederik Wijnmalen, the symposium's secretary, presented HRH with copies of the international and the Dutch journals of TIMS. Prince Friso lives in London and appeared to be eager to know all about London's still existing mills.

March 2006

The Organising Committee decided to select the Hampshire Inn "Mooi Veluwe" as the symposium venue. It is a comfortable 3* hotel surrounded by forest, with all rooms and facilities at ground floor level. See Venue & Accommodation for further information.

February 2nd, 2006 First publication of full symposium website on the internet.

January/February 2006

The Organising Committee are putting the bits and pieces of excursions and tours together based on a draft of the symposium programme and time schedule. Both owners and millers of the mills (and pumping stations) to be visited have appeared to be very enthousiastic and eager to receive us and proudly show their mills.

December 2005 - January 2006

A first announcement of the symposium, including an outline of the Committee's plans, was issued  (and is still to be issued in some) in selected journals and newsletters all over the world, including International Molinology. This was done in English, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese. A Spanish announcement will follow.

Summer 2005 Most legal and financial formalities were completed.

March 2005

The Organising Committee held their first business meeting at full strength (7 members).

September 2004

The General Meeting of TIMS, during the 11th Symposium in Portugal, decided to hold their 12th Symposium in The Netherlands in 2007.
